“Its recess to us.”

Traditionally, polo is a team sport in which players are divided into two teams, riding on horseback, aiming to score goals from the opposing team. Nowadays, some people play polo on bikes instead of horses. This new generation of polo is called bike polo.

Bike polo players in Seattle call themselves passive-aggressive hippies. They love bike polo because it is challenging and fun. They also enjoy decorating the wheels of their bikes. Part of what they enjoy, is how the game provides a strong sense of community.

Unfortunately, there is no place designated for bike polo in Seattle. The players therefore gather and play at the tennis court at Cal Anderson Park on Capitol Hill. However, they are not so welcome there. Tennis players or the people in the neighborhood may call the cops sometimes to interfere with the game. The tennis players argue that the court is for tennis and not bike polo. On the other hand, the scratches on the court that made by the bikes may also be a reason why bike polo is unwelcome. The sport, however, is becoming popular, and leagues are forming throughout North America.
